NBA All Star Weekend 2008

Posted on: January 27, 2008 10:39 pm

The Starting Line-ups for the 2008 NBA All Star game were released this past Thursday.

WEST

G - Allen Iverson

G - Kobe Bryant

F - Carmelo Anthony

F - Tim Duncan

C - Yao Ming

My thoughts on the WEST starters: Both of the guard spots are off to me. I think Chris Paul and Baron Davis deserved those starting spots over Kobe and AI, I say those 2 come off the bench. This is more of a popularity contest with the fan voting and all. With the forwards I think Carlos Boozer and Dirk Nowitzki should start with Melo and TD off the bench. Again, just a popularity contest. Yao Ming deseved his spot at center.

EAST

G - Dwyane Wade

G - Jason Kidd

F - LeBron James

F- Kevin Garnett

C - Dwight Howard

My thoughts on the EAST starters: 2 words, NAILED IT !

Looking forward to the Friday night action with the Celebrity game and the Rookie Challenge vs. the second year guys. There are no rosters out yet fot either of those games. On NBA.com they have the scoreboard for the Rookie Challenge set at 000 to 000, implicating that this will be a very high scoring game in triple digits. Should be very entertaining.

Saturday should also be fun to watch. The D-League All Star game is earlier that day. Then that night there is the Slam Dunk Contest, the Skills Challenge, the 3 Point Shootout, and the Shooting Stars Contest (one NBA player, one WNBA player, and one retired player all from the same city) taking on the other city's teams by shooting different shots around the court in the fastest amount of time.

The Dunk Contest will be a good one. The 4 competitors are Dwight Howard, Gerald Green, Rudy Gay, and Jamario Moon. We saw Green win it last year when clearly Howard deserved it and got ripped off by the judges. Anyway Rudy has some HOPS and will be taking fan suggestion videos on youtube for one of his dunks. Personally I am rooting for Rudy beacuse I met him over the summer.

Then on Sunday is the 57th NBA All Star Game. More on that when the rest of the rosters are announced.
